The public is invited to attend a free event this weekend as 26 Slippery Rock University student vocalists compete for a scholarship.
The 29th annual Chad Williamson Memorial Vocal Scholarship competition will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday on SRU’s Swope Music Hall stage.
Each student will present two selections, one a classical piece and another one of their own choosing. The competition will be judged by a voice teacher from West Virginia University.
The scholarship provides tuition assistance to the top three SRU student finishers in honor of Chad Williamson who graduated from Slippery Rock Area High School and planned to attend SRU to study music but died in a car crash shortly before his freshman year.
