The Butler Transit Authority is slowly rebounding from a severe driver shortage and route disruption.
According to Authority Executive Director John Paul, local route weekday service will be fully restored Monday. At least two drivers are still out sick but several replacement drivers have been hired.
“I think the staff did a commendable job in this situation for what occurred in a short period of time and we did the best we can,” Paul said. “We’re starting to restore service to full levels. And that’s all we can do and move forward from there.”
The Authority is offering free fares for their commuter service to Pittsburgh beginning with two trips on Friday and will continue to do so until all routes have been reinstated over the next few months.
An illness outbreak among bus drivers forced the authority to stop local routes last month.
