The City of Butler will be getting some new equipment as a result of recently being awarded a federal grant.
Thursday night City Council accepted a Fiscal Year 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant of $52,000 to be used for a source capture vehicle exhaust extraction system in the fire station. 95% of the grant is federal funding and the remaining 5% is a local match of just over $2,000.
Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala says the money will be used to replace equipment that fell into disrepair years ago. A hose will connect to the exhaust of the diesel engines and then vent out through the roof to allow for healthier air inside the station.
This equipment is expected to be in use by the fire department sometime early next year.
