Students returning to the Slippery Rock University campus will see the results of progress made with several construction projects.
The $33 million renovation to the SRU performing arts complex that began three years ago was completed earlier this year. This new addition features a performance space with over 750 seats, multiple dance studios, an orchestra pit, a scene shop, and a new loading dock.
Other recent SRU projects totaling over $4 million include roof and skylight replacement at Carruth Rizza Hall, window replacement and restroom renovation in the McKay Education Building, and a new ventilation system for portions of the lower level of Patterson Hall.
Also, projects expected to be completed next month include three engineering laboratories on the first floor of the Physical Therapy Building, paving gravel parking lots near the Art Sculpture Building, and refinishing the main pedestrian corridor that connects upper and lower campus.
The university also spent $300,000 of COVID relief money to install 350 ionization units in facilities around campus to help reduce the spread of airborne pathogens. An over $18 million renovation to the former University Union building is expected to begin next summer.
