The City of Butler is moving forward with a smaller project that could help reduce flooding issues before a state project to make a major improvement later this fall.
An agreement with S and C Trucking and Excavating will clean out the sediment in Sullivan Run at a cost of $11,500. This was the lowest of three bids received and is expected to be done sometime in the next two to three weeks.
This type of work is done every couple years, according to Building Code Official John Evans. Heavy rains this past week caused Sullivan Run to again overflow and flood homes in the city’s West End.
The Sullivan Run Channel Improvement project is being done by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The city has obtained the construction rights of way and easements and submitted them to the state Department of General Services. The city has also secured its portion of the $4 million project, which is $252,000 from the Butler County Infrastructure Bank.
