Senator Pat Toomey is reportedly not running for re-election in 2022.
The two-term Republican had also been considering a run for governor, but that appears to be off the table as well according to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Toomey was originally elected to the senate in 2010, and won re-election in 2016.
With the news comes speculation of which candidates could possibly throw their hat into the ring.
Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman, a Democrat, texted a reporter yesterday that 2022 was “wide open,” implying he could consider a run.
The 2022 senate election also coincides with the Pennsylvania governor’s race, as current Governor Tom Wolf is term restricted.
