Butler County has been awarded a large federal grant to help fund a local transportation project.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced that the county will receive a $25 million BUILD Grant to make improvements to portions of Route 228 from Lovi Road to Haine School Road as well as the intersection with Three Degree Road.
This grant will help pay for widening of lanes, adding turning lanes, converting intersections to roundabouts or jug handles, installing ADA ramps, adding multi-use paths, and upgrading signals and pavement markings.
U.S. Senator Pat Toomey and U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly supported the application filed by county officials and helped to secure this grant.
