North Catholic head coach Dave DeGregorio has been named the Class 3A coach of the year by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Association. DeGregorio led the Trojans to the WPIAL title and the PIAA quarterfinals before the season was halted. Isaac DeGregorio was named to the 3A second-team. They are just the second father-son combo to receive the recognition, and both were Butler County connections. Mars high school head coach Rob Carmody and his son Robby were both named to the All-State 3A team in 2016.
One of the top basketball players in Pennsylvania has decided to join the Pitt men’s basketball team and head coach Jeff Capel. William Jeffers made his announcement and signed with the Panthers Tuesday. Jeffers is considered one of the top-75 prospects in the nation. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged more than 24-points per game for McDowell high school this past season.
