A new program is saving money for students at Slippery Rock University.
The Open Educational Resources Grant initiative provided funding to six SRU faculty members during the fall semester in order to revise their courses through replacing textbooks with free or lower cost materials.
Each faculty member received a one-time grant for between $300 and $500 depending on the number of students in each class to incentivize class revisions that result in lower costs for materials.
This program, organized through the Office of Academic Affairs and Integrated Learning, has already saved students a total of $37,000 during this semester. Faculty grants will again be made available in the spring and fall semesters of 2020.
