A bill introduced by a local legislator that would make sexual extortion illegal could soon become law.
State Representative Tedd Nesbit (R-Butler, Mercer) says House Bill 1402 would make it illegal to coerce an individual to engage in sexual conduct or create images or recordings of a sexual nature.
Nesbit said he believes people should have the full support of the law when someone tries to blackmail them into performing or recording a sexual act. This is especially important as technology advances make this sort of activity more common.
Nesbit’s bill will now advance to the desk of Governor Tom Wolf where it is expected to be signed into law.
