Butler City Council will take some additional time to make sure all the information involved with their 2020 budget is correct.
Instead of approving the introduction and first reading of their annual budget as anticipated Thursday night, Council members voted unanimously to table the motion. That budget currently sits at just under $9.4 million with an even tax rate from last year at 43.25 mils.
At issue are recent figures put out by Butler County reflecting a drastic decrease in assessed property values which would greatly reduce expected city revenue for the upcoming year. City officials believe that this drastic reduction could be a mistake and have requested a check of these figures from the county.
That check is expected to be completed by Monday afternoon at which time the City will resume their meeting and determine if any changes need to be made to the budget before voting. The budget would then be made available to the public for 30 days before a vote for final approval sometime before the end of December.
