Butler Area School District administrators are taking a close look at their football program and it could result in changes made.
Superintendent Dr. Brian White informed the School Board that although no specifics are yet ready to be made public, options are being discussed to realign or reestablish the program.
He would say that changing the coach is not part of the plan and coach Eric Christy has his full support. Christy was hired in January of 2018 and has led the team to two winless seasons. Several games Butler was only able to dress 24 players while the opposition had 60 or 70.
Discussions are taking place with the WPIAL about options and building the program. White points to the expansion to six classifications as being part of the problem with competition against bigger and wealthier districts.
Recommendations are expected to be presented at one of the board’s December meetings with action taken before the end of January.
