The Butler County Veteran of the Year will be recognized at a luncheon coming up this weekend.
Al Worsley is this year’s recipient.
“I joined the Air Force in May 1968. I was obviously during the Vietnam conflict, but was lucky enough to be sent to Germany for two years,” Worsley said.
Worsley was a mechanic on the F-4 Phantom Egress.
The lunch and program will take place this Saturday at noon at American Legion Post 778 where Worsley is very active. Director of Veterans Services John Cyprian explains about the selection process.
“A lot of veterans think their military service wins them this honor. And although that plays a role in the selection, we in the veteran community say you are not done serving even though you’ve hung up your uniform,” Cyprian said.
“So the bigger role that gets you this honor is what you’ve given back to your community,” Cyprian said.
The lunch is open to the public and tickets are $15.
