An event coming up later this week will extend a helping hand to local veterans struggling with issues like homelessness.
‘Stand Down Butler County’ is scheduled for Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tanglewood Center in Lyndora. Organizer Roy Ramone explains:
“It’s a program that resembles back during the Vietnam War when soldiers would leave the battlefield and come back to a safe place to rest up for going back out to battle,” Ramone said. “Basically what Stand Down is a chance for our homeless veterans to get food, clean clothes, and resources from the community.”
Over 40 vendors and other organizations will have representatives at this free event to share information about housing and homeless services, as well as mental and physical care.
This is the fourth year Butler has hosted a local event to mark the start of Homeless Awareness Month.
Other Stand Down events will take place throughout the month including November 6th at VA Butler Health Care, a dodge ball tournament November 12th at the Cubs Hall, and a dinner for landlords at the Vagabonds on November 14th.
