The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros 6-2 last night to win baseball’s World Series. The Nationals won all four of their games in Houston to take the best-of-seven series 4-3. It is the first world title for the Nationals franchise, which began as the Montreal Expos before moving to D.C. in 2005.
One time Pirate pitcher Daniel Hudson got the final three outs of the game for Washington.
Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named the series Most Valuable Player. He earned two of Washington’s four victories.
Former Slippery Rock University baseball player Matt Adams is a member of the Washington Nationals, and became the first SRU player to be a part of a World Series champion since Bob Shawkey in 1926, who was a pitcher for the New York Yankees.
