Fire safety may seem like common sense but some Butler Township students will receive an extra incentive for learning and sharing this important information as part of a family fire safety poster contest.
Butler City and Township Joint Fire Chief Chris Switala said he hopes the students’ families get involved because it helps with overall fire safety preparation.
“We actually encourage parents to help with their children because it benefits everyone,” Switala said. “It isn’t just for the children to learn fire safety, we want it to be practiced by everyone inside the home.”
Butler Township students attending McQuistion, Northwest, and Connoquenessing are asked to prepare a poster in response to the theme of “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape!”
Butler Township is partnering with Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt who will provide prizes to be given out to winners of each grade level. The classroom with the most participants will also receive a prize.
Poster ideas can be found at the fire prevention website Sparky.org which is sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association. The deadline for submissions at the Butler Township Municipal Building or at the schools is Thursday, October 17th.
