The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau remains opposed to the state Senate bill that would expand opportunities to hunt on Sundays.
Bureau representatives testified last week before the House Game and Fisheries Committee that Senate Bill 147 as currently written fails to include language requiring hunters to obtain written permission to hunt on private land.
Currently hunters are required to obtain verbal permission from landowners but many fail to do so resulting in illegal hunting. The Farm Bureau also notes that similar moves to allow Sunday hunting in other states have failed to increase the number of hunters.
The Farm Bureau would like lawmakers to pass a purple paint bill that would allow landowners to mark property boundaries with purple stripes painted on trees and fence posts that would carry the same legal implications as No Trespassing or No Hunting signs.
