The Butler Area School District is pushing back the first day of school due to continuing problems associated with student transportation.
A message posted to the district’s website says that the first day of school for students will be Tuesday, September 3rd. The first day of classes had originally been planned for tomorrow (Thursday).
Superintendent Brian White said it appeared all of the software issues were fixed as of Tuesday night. The Transportation Department and additional staff members were focused Tuesday on setting the appropriate bus routes for elementary students and plan to get the secondary routes in place today.
White says the district has just started to respond to parent emails and phone calls. They have brought in additional staff members to help.
The software issues first caused the district to be delayed in sending out student transportation cards that detailed bus routes, and then discovered students were being assigned to the wrong routes altogether.
It is not yet known when or how the two days students will miss due to this issue will be made up.
