Local police officers across the country- and here in Butler County- will get out of their cruisers this evening and socialize with the people they serve.
It’s the annual ‘National Night Out,’ which was started some-three decades ago to increase police-community relations. Butler and Cranberry townships plan to participate.
The event in Butler Township will begin at 6 p.m. at the Butler Volunteer Fire Department building on Sparks Avenue in Meridian. This will mark the sixth year the township has participated, and it’s been held in different areas of the township in years past.
“(This event) gives a pretty good overall scope of all township services,” Butler Township Manager Tom Knights told Butler Radio in an interview Friday on WISR’s ‘It’s Your Turn’ talk show. “We encourage any township residents to come and ask questions, see equipment…it’s just a community event.”
Cranberry Township will host its National Night Out between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Target off Route 228.
