With a six percent increase in tolls across the Pennsylvania Turnpike taking effect in 2020, motorists using three cashless tolling stations in Western Pennsylvania will see a price hike a little earlier.
Beginning October 27th, drivers will pay more at the eastbound Gateway tolling point at Milepost 2 on Interstate 76 in Lawrence County, PA Turnpike 66 Greensburg Bypass in Westmoreland County, and PA Turnpike 376 (Beaver Valley Expressway) in Beaver and Lawrence Counties.
E-Z Pass users will see a six percent toll increase but Toll By Plate users will see a sizable increase depending on the location due to invoice processing and collections costs. For example, a two axle passenger vehicle using Toll By Plate at Gateway will increase from $7.90 to $12.20.
The Turnpike is working on developing a GPS-triggered smartphone app which could be ready by the end of the year. This would offer lower tolls than cash and Toll By Plate options but E-Z Pass would remain the least expensive.
