A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced for multiple offenses including possessing drug-soaked paper while an inmate in the Butler County Prison last year.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a federal judge directed 26-year-old Chance Rice to serve nearly five years in jail and six years of supervised release.
While being held in the Butler County Jail in July of 2018 for multiple gun crimes that occurred in 2015 in Allegheny County, prison staff found drug-soaked paper during a cell search. A lab determined the paper contained a type of synthetic marijuana. Rice admitted in court that he possessed this drug with intent to distribute to other inmates.
A month later in mid-August of 2018 six Butler County prison workers were sickened after coming into contact with what was determined to be synthetic marijuana in an unrelated incident.
