A judge in Florida has determined that a woman originally from Butler County is mentally incompetent to stand trial on murder charges.
According to our news partners at WPXI-TV, Kimberly Kessler- who grew up in Butler- will not stand trial for the murder of Joleen Cummings over a year ago.
Kessler worked with the victim at a hair salon in Nassau County and was the last person to see Cummings before she disappeared. Cummings body has not been found.
Action News Jax reports that an evaluation by physicians in May determined that Kessler was not competent but prosecutors challenged that determination resulting in the need for a judge’s ruling. The judge also ordered that Kessler be committed to a state hospital with a review in six months.
