A Butler man will face charges after he allegedly led authorities on an early morning chase that resulted in a damaged police cruiser and an injured State Trooper.
According to State Police, two troopers attempted to pull over 23-year-old Nicholas Masella for failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of North Chestnut Street and New Castle Street in Butler City just after 2am on Sunday.
Authorities say that Masella initially stopped, but fled the scene after he was asked to exit the vehicle after he allegedly admitted to drinking. Police were then led on a chase, which at one point stopped on East Brady Street when four passengers exited Masella’s vehicle.
A “PIT” maneuver was later utilized to stop Masella, who then drove his truck into the driver side of the patrol car; resulting in disabling damage to the vehicle and injuries to a Trooper.
Masella was later found passed out behind the wheel of his truck on the side of Route 528 in Franklin Township. He was then taken to the Butler County Prison, and faces numerous charges such as Aggravated Assault of a Trooper and DUI.
