The State Police in Butler are continuing their investigation after a Freeport woman was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon in Butler County.
According to our news partners at WPXI, 62-year-old Mary Jo Kornick was traveling home from work on Route 356 in Buffalo Township when she crashed her car.
Officials say that after the crash, 72-year-old Nicholas Domek III pulled up beside Kornick and shot her. Kornick was then transported to Allegheny General Hospital where she later died. Domek was later found dead at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Hazlewood. It is suspected that Domek had died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities say that Kornick had a protection from abuse order against Domek following a December incident at Kornick’s place of employment. During the incident, police say that Domek attempted to kidnap Kornick, who was able to escape.
The investigation into Saturday’s case is ongoing.
