The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-5 Wednesday in Grapefruit League play. Pablo Reyes had three hits and scored twice. Colin Moran added two hits. Joe Musgrove started the game for the Pirates. He allowed eight hits and three earned runs over five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The Pirates host Baltimore today at 1:05pm. The game will be televised on AT&T SportsNet.
Pirates catcher Elias Diaz has returned to full baseball activities. He has been sidelined with a virus, and will not begin the season with the team.
The Major League Baseball season opened Wednesday in Japan with Seattle defeating Oakland 9-7. The game may have been the final start for outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, who began his career in Japan in 1992 at the age of 18. The 45-year old star has accumulated 4,367 hits between Japan and the United States.
Former Slippery Rock University standout reliever Lou Trivino struck out the side in the ninth inning yesterday for Oakland.
