A Special Election has been scheduled to fill the seat vacated by State Rep. Brian Ellis’s resignation earlier this week.
The election to fill the state’s 11th Legislative District seat will take place on Primary Election Day, which is May 21 this year, according to an announcement Wednesday by speaker of the state House of Representatives Mike Turzai.
Both the Democratic and Republican parties of Butler County will be responsible for their own nomination processes to pick a candidate.
Ellis’ former office in Lyndora does remain open during regular business hours to conduct business and aid constituents under supervision of the House of Representatives. The office will remain open until a new representative takes office and decides how to manage the district.
Ellis resigned on Monday amid sexual assault allegations. He has not been charged criminally.
