High School Sports:
The Mars Boys basketball team (27-1) will meet Moon (26-2) in the 5A PIAA semifinals tonight. It is a rematch of the WPIAL title game won by the Planets 58-56. The game will be played at New Castle high school. Tip-off is 7pm. The winner moves on to the state title game Friday in Hershey.
The North Catholic Girls defeated Villa Maria 61-41 in the 4A quarterfinals Saturday. The Trojanettes (25-3) will face Mifflinburg (26-4) in the state semifinals Tuesday. The game will be played at Saint Francis University with a 7pm tip-off.
Mifflinburg defeated defending state champion Lancaster Catholic 72-70 in overtime in the quarterfinals.
Kennedy Catholic defeated Mt. Lebanon 68-51 in the 6A PIAA quarterfinals.They will get Coatsville in the semifinals. Coatsville defeated Butler last Wednesday in the Second Round.
Butler Junior Swimmer Laura Goettler won the state championship in the 100-Breastroke Saturday.
The Butler Middle School Hockey team defeated Kiski Area 3-2 in their first round playoff game. Butler will meet Fox Chapel Thursday.
