The South Butler County School District Superintendent David Foley wants to rename the district.
“I think most people in the South Butler County School District identify by the term Knoch and its primarily though our sports programs that the word Knoch is used. We travel to other places and people say ‘we’re South Butler County School District’ and we inevitably get to ‘oh, we’re Knoch High School’ ‘oh, I know what you mean now.”
Aside from getting the entire district under one name, Foley sees the name change as a way for the district to move forward.
“We started talking about this concept because of the need to move forward in our district. By that I mean we need to get past some of the challenges that we’ve had here in the district and I believe that starting with the naming of the school district might get us to start thinking and looking forward. We’re doing a lot of great things in the school district. We have excellent teachers. We have a board who cares about our programs and our students.”
Foley brought up the idea at Wednesday’s school board meeting, which started discussions. He has also contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Education to see what steps would need to be done in order to make this change.
