Five regional business leaders went back to high school on Tuesday and were paired up with Butler Senior High School students through the “CEOs in the Classroom” program.
David Morehouse with the Pittsburgh Penguins said he was impressed with Butler’s school and students.
“I haven’t been in school in over 40 years,” Morehouse said Tuesday. “It used to be that teachers were talking at the students but there was a lot more interaction, a lot more group work, which I think is helpful in today’s environment. I’m encouraged about the future and how well rounded and inquisitive the kids I saw today were.”
Butler Senior High School was one of seven schools in the region to host the business executives as part of this relatively-new event, which is sponsored by the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.
In total, five executives walked the halls at Butler High- including from The Pittsburgh Business Times, The Grable Foundation and MSA.
Butler High School Sophomore Chloe Paulisick was one of the students who spent the day with the leaders.
“They’re CEOs- they have a lot of business experience- and I will probably go into the business field so it was just exciting to see someone with a pretty high up career in business,” Paulisick said. “It was just nice to talk to somebody in the field that I’m probably going to go into.”
Several CEOs shared ideas they will take from this experience back to their workplaces, including training using smart phones and embracing how connected today’s students are through collaborative projects.
