The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Florida Panthers 3-2 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. Jake Guentzel scored the game-winner in overtime, one of two goals he scored. Guentzel now has 33 goals this season. Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists. The first assist of the night was on a Guentzel goal 16 seconds into the second period, giving Crosby 1,200 points in his NHL Career. Crosby netted his 30th goal of the season on a power play in the second period.
The victory ties the Penguins with Carolina for third place in the Metropolitan Division, but the Pens remain the seventh team in the Eastern Conference based on tie-breakers. Carolina lost to Boston 4-3 in overtime last night. Montreal defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 last night and are also tied with the Pens and Carolina. The Canadiens are the eighth seed, two points in front of Columbus.
The Pens host the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday, then visit Columbus Saturday. The Blue Jackets defeated New Jersey 2-1 in a shoot-out last night.
Defenseman Brian Dumoulin returned to the lineup after suffering a concussion February 23rd.
