The City of Butler is among the defendants named in a lawsuit recently filed by a local man in Court of Common Pleas Civil Court.
James Cogley of Butler alleges that he was subjected to an invasion of privacy as well as a use of excessive force in the lawsuit filed October 10th. Cogley is asking for monetary damages.
Also named in the suit are Butler County, Butler City Police Chief Ronald Brown, Sergeant Ronald Fundark, and Patrolman Douglas Mazzanti. Mazzanti is currently employed by Adams Township Police. Fundark was fired in early 2016 and the near 20-year veteran officer was allowed to receive a full pension as part of a settlement with the city.
Judge Marilyn Horan has been assigned to this case. The city is reportedly obligated to pay the first $10,000 in legal costs before insurance kicks in to cover additional expenses.
