The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Minnesota Wild 2-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Bryan Rust scored both Penguins goals, and both were assisted by Jake Guentzel. Rust now has scored eight goals over his past six games.
Goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 40 of 41 shots. It is the fifth time this season DeSmith has faced 40 shots. He is 3-0-2 in those games.
Last night’s victory moves the Pens to within three points of first-place Washington in the Metropolitan Division. The Pens are one point out of second place, behind Columbus.
Winger Dominik Simon returned to the line-up last night for the first time since suffering a “lower-body” injury December 4th. The Pens have sent Garrett Wilson back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Defenseman Jamie Oleksiak is out with a concussion. He suffered the injury in the fight Wednesday with Washington Capitals player Tom Wilson.
The Pens visit Carolina Saturday for a 7pm face-off. WISR pre-game is 6:30pm. After they visit the Hurricanes, the Pens will be off until they host Detroit Thursday, December 27th.
