The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 last night. Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust scored the Penguins goals. Matt Murray stopped 31 of 32 shots on goal from the Capitals. The Penguins also held Alexander Ovechkin without a goal. He currently leads the NHL with 29 and had scored in his previous seven games.
Crosby scored on a power play for the Pens in the second period after the Caps had taken a 1-0 lead. Bryan Rust scored the game-winner just under 10 minutes later. The Pens held the Capitals scoreless on five power play opportunties.
The game began with a fight between Penguins defenseman Jamie Oleksiak and Capitals winger Tom Wilson in the opening minute.
The Pens returned home after the game and will host the Minnesota Wild tonight at 7pm. WISR pre-game is 6:30pm. The Pens are 9-3-1 this season against the Western Conference. They visit Carolina Saturday.
