The Slippery Rock University football team defeated New Haven 59-20 Saturday in the NCAA Division II football playoffs. Slippery Rock scored on their first seven possessions of the game, and never punted. The Rock now moves into the national quarterfinals against Notre Dame College Saturday.
The Pitt football team fell back out of the nation’s top-25 after losing 24-3 to Miami Saturday. The Panthers will face Clemson Saturday in the ACC championship game. Kick-off is 8pm.
Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame remain the top three teams in the latest Associated Press rankings. Georgia has moved up to fourth, followed by Oklahoma. Michigan fell out of the top five to #8 after losing to Ohio State Saturday. Penn State moved up one spot to #14.
Texas A&M defeated LSU 74-72 in SEVEN overtimes Saturday. LSU fell out of the top-10 to #12.
Duquesne defeated Towson State 31-10 in the first round of the FCS playoffs. The Dukes will face South Dakota State Saturday afternoon in the second round.
High School Football:
–Pine-Richland defeated State College in the PIAA 6A quarterfinals Saturday and will meet St. Joseph’s Prep this Saturday in the state seminfinals. The game will be played at Altoona’s Mansion Park Stadium. Kick-off is 1pm.
–Two state semifinal playoff games will be played at Slippery Rock University this week. Our Lady of Sacred Heart and Farrell will play in a 1A match-up Friday at 7pm. Sharon and Aliquippa will play Saturday at 1pm in 3A.
