The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. It was the team’s fourth consecutive defeat, and ninth in 10 games. The Sabres won their sixth game in a row after trailing the Pens 4-1 in the game. The Penguins had four different goal scorers, including Tanner Pearson acquired in the past week for Carl Hagelin, who had his first goal of the season.
The Pens will host Dallas tomorrow night at 7pm.
The Pens played without captain Sidney Crosby last night, and prior to the game announced 42-year old veteran center Matt Cullen would be out long-term with a “lower-body injury”. He joins defenseman Justin Schultz who will miss a large part of the season with a leg injury.
The Penguins have brought back former general manager Craig Patrick as a pro scout. The 72-year old Patrick was the Pens g.m. from 1989 to 2006. He built the Penguins back-to-back Stanley Cup championship teams in 1991 and 1992. Patrick was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.
