High School Sports:
Soccer:
The Seneca Valley Boys Soccer team defeated Abington 1-0 in the 4A state quarterfinals. Jackson Wotus scored the only goal of the game. Raiders goalkeeper Will Gallagher notched his ninth shutout of the season. Seneca Valley will meet Radnor in the semifinals Tuesday. The match will be played at Chambersburg high school at 6:30pm.
The Seneca Valley Girls were defeated 2-1 by Souderton. After tying the game 1-1 in the second half, Souderton won the game 4-3 in penalty kicks.
Blue Mountain eliminated Mars 1-0 in the 3A quarterfinals.
The Deer Lakes Boys Soccer team defeated Quaker Valley 2-1 in the 2A quarterfinals. They meet Shady Side Academy Tuesday in the semifinals at Mars high school. The match begins at 8pm. Shady Side eliminated Mercyhurst Prep 7-5.
Volleyball:
The Knoch and Freeport Girls Volleyball teams will share a PIAA semifinal doubleheader site Tuesday.
The Knoch Girls Volleyball team swept Dover 3-0 Saturday in the 3A quarterfinals. The Knights will meet District 10 champion Warren Tuesday. The match will be played at Clarion high school beginning at 7pm. Knoch is the defending state champions and defended their WPIAL championship this season.
The Freeport Girls Volleyball team defeated WPIAL champion North Catholic 3-2 in the state 2A quarterfinals. Freeport will meet Bald Eagle in the semifinals also at Clarion high school beginning at 5:30pm.
The North Allegheny Girls Volleyball team defeated State College 3-1 in 4A and get Garnet Valley Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
High School Football Playoffs:
–Seneca Valley will meet Pine-Richland in the 6A championship Saturday at Heinz Field. Kick-off is 8pm.
(the 4A, 3A and 1A championship games will also be played Saturday at Heinz. The 5A and 2A playoffs have just reached the semi-final match-ups this Friday.)
–Grove City defeated Slippery Rock 26-9 Saturday in the District-10 3A semifnals. Grove City will meet Sharon in the championship game Friday at Slippery Rock University at 7pm. Sharon defeated Mercyhurst Prep 29-28.
–Ridgway defeated Moniteau 15-7 in the District-9 semifinals. The Warriors led 7-0 through three quarters, but couldn’t hold on.
