The first funeral services will be held today for victims of Saturday’s synagogue shooting in Squirrel Hill.
Visitation and services will be held for brothers Cecil and David Rosenthal.
The leader of Congregation B’nai Abraham in Butler Cantor Michal Gray-Schaffer knew the brothers well.
“They were always there. The synagogue was their home. The synagogue was where people loved them,” Gray-Schaffer said.
Gray-Schaffer also knew the oldest victim- 97 year old Rose Mallinger.
“When I worked at Tree of Life, she was one of the people that was always there, and always early, which is why she lost her life,” she said.
Eleven people were killed, when a gunman entered the Tree of Life Synagogue just as services were beginning and started shooting. The victims range in age from 54 to 97 and include a pair of brothers and a married couple.
Services for other victims will be taking place throughout the week.
