The Slippery Rock University football team defeated Clarion 28-13 Saturday. The Rock rushed for 288 yards against the Golden Eagles, who had been ranked 11th in the nation in run defense entering the game. Wes Hills rushed for 206 of those yards. The Rock improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the PSAC-West with two division games remaining. They visit Cal this Saturday. A victory will allow The Rock to host the PSAC Championship game.
In a game that was delayed a day because of storms in Erie, California defeated Mercyhurst 23-0 Sunday. The game was halted late in the second quarter Saturday because of lightning. With the victory, Cal improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC-West setting up the conference showdown against The Rock.
Penn State earned a 33-28 victory over Indiana Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Nittany Lions moved up one spot to #17 this week in the latest national rankings.
Ohio State entered the weekend ranked #2 but lost to Purdue 49-20. The Buckeyes fell to #11 this week.
Clemson pounded North Carolina State 41-7 and have moved back up to #2. Alabama remains a unanimous #1. Notre Dame is now third followed by LSU. Michigan moves up to #5.
Appalachian State made their first-ever appearance in the Division-1 rankings this week at #25.
