Butler County will soon have a county-based mass notification system in place to notify residents in the event of an emergency.
Butler County Emergency Services Director Steve Bicehouse says his office has been working to get something like this in place for some time.
“This helps us bridge a gap with notification of the public in the event of an emergency,” Bicehouse said.
Once the system is in place, residents can sign up to receive notifications either by phone call, text or email. The alerts would detail weather-related emergencies, road closures and 911 outages. The system can send notifications county-wide, or to residents in a specific area.
Several other nearby counties have implemented something similar, and it’s been successful, according to Bicehouse.
The system costs $12,500 to get up and running. The Butler County commissioners gave their approval during a meeting this week.
Bicehouse is hoping to get it up and running by Jan. 1.
