Plans to tear down and rebuild a Sheetz gas station and convenience store in Butler Township have been given the final go-ahead.
The Butler Township commissioners approved a motion earlier this week for the new prototype Sheetz that will be built at the corner of Route 68 and Meridian Road.
It will be bigger than the existing store and include a drive-thru. A company representative said a six-foot tall fence has been added to construction plans around the drive-thru lane to address concerns from neighbors about light and sound. A similar fence can be found at the Sheetz across from the Clearview Mall in Center Township.
Also, dead trees that separate the store from homes next-door will be replaced.
Demolition of the old store is scheduled to begin in the spring. The new store should be open next fall.
