There is no school in Mars on Friday as the Adams Township Police Department investigates “rumors of possible violence.”
In a letter to parents on Thursday, Mars Superintendent Wesley Shipley said police have yet to substantiate these rumors and are continuing their investigation, and that the district decided to close school out of an abundance of caution.
All district-sponsored, on-campus activities are canceled for Friday; however, the away boys’ varsity football game at Kiski Area High School will still be played.
This all comes after Mars High School was evacuated twice this week following bomb threats. After a search of the school on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, nothing was found and students were let back inside.
“The district strives to remain proactive in the protection of our students, faculty and staff members. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as the district continues to investigate this matter. Anyone with information regarding these rumors is asked to please contact Adams Township Police Department immediately at (724) 625-2040 or to call 9-1-1,” Shipley said.
After the back-to-back bomb threats, Shipley said the school district would take legal action if and when a suspect is identified.
