The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 Wednesday to take a 3-2 lead in the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers are now a win away from going to their second-consecutive World Series since losing to the New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978.
Game Six is scheduled for Friday in Milwaukee. Wade Miley will start for the Brewers. He also started Game Five, but was pulled after one batter. Los Angeles had stacked a right-handed line-up against the left-handed pitcher, so manager Craig Counsell decided to strategically go to his bullpen.
The Boston Red Sox are also a win away from the World Series after an 8-6 victory over the Houston Astros in Game Four of the American League Championship Series. Former Pirate Charlie Morton, who was a hero in the ALCS and World Series last year for Houston, managed just 2-1/3rd innings in last night’s start. He allowed three earned runs on three hits, walking two and striking out two.
The Red Sox lead the Series 3-1 heading into Game Five tonight in Houston. First pitch is 8:09pm.
Boston starting pitcher Chris Sale will not be able to go for tonight’s game. He fell ill after Game One and spent time in the hospital.
