Frost?
The National Weather Service says the first frost of the season could come late Monday or early Tuesday morning, and if it doesn’t come then, it likely will by Wednesday night.
Meteorologist Matthew Kramer with the NWS office in Pittsburgh says this is actually later than usual.
“The median date of the first fall freeze for Butler County is Oct. 1,” he said. “We’re actually beyond the typical date for the first fall freeze.”
Kramer says it’s been a little slower to get the cold air in.
“We’ve been acclimated to warm,” he says, referencing the 80-plus degrees we had as late as last week.
Tonight’s expected clear skies- combined with a light wind and dry air- could make conditions perfect for a frost.
“We’re calling for lows in the low-to-mid-30s,” he said. “But it can get colder closer to the ground where the plants are.”
Temperatures are expected to warm up to a high near 50 on Tuesday.
A high of only 46 degrees is expected Wednesday, with a low of 33.
