The county is considering hiring four new caseworkers to work in the Butler County Children and Youth Services department.
Butler County Human Services Director Joyce Ainsworth told the county salary board during a meeting on Wednesday that the department could benefit from a new caseworker supervisor and three new caseworkers.
The need for new employees is due in part, Ainsworth said, because of the influx in department work following new state legislation regarding child abuse. In 2014, new laws were passed regarding reporting child abuse. In the past four years, the department has added two full-time positions, converted one part-time position to full-time, and added one part-time position.
The Butler County Salary Board, which includes the county commissioners and county Controller Ben Holland, will vote on the matter next week.
