State police are investigating the death of a Slippery Rock University freshman.
President William Behre said in an email to students Monday morning that Seth Weismantle, of Conway, Beaver County, died suddenly on Monday.
Associate Executive Director for Communication and Public Affairs at SRU Robb King said there was no indication of foul play, but police are investigating per protocol.
“I am deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden death this morning of Seth Weismantle, a freshman from Conway. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his parents, family and friends as they deal with this tragic loss and to those on campus who were fortunate to have known Seth. The University has reached out to Seth’s family to offer our support during this difficult time,” Behre said in the email.
“These will be hard days for many of us in remembering Seth and his passing. The Weismantle family and his friends, particularly his classmates, will need our strength and prayers. It’s important for us to look out for each other and to be aware of support resources in our community. The Student Counseling Center is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for any students who would like to process this event. In addition, the Student Health Center is open 24/7 for those who feel they need to meet with someone right away. The State Employees Assistance Program is available 24/7 by calling 800.692.7459,” he said.
Further details on Weismantle’s death have not been released.
