The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a 3-2 victory last night at PNC Park. Jameson Taillon earned his 12th win of the season, allowing just one run over five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six. Felipe Vazquez earned his 30th save of the season, despite allowing a run in the ninth inning and leaving the bases loaded.
The Pirates are off today and host Miami this weekend. The Bucs play Friday night, then Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm. Saturday’s game was originally scheduled as a night game, but was moved to the afternoon at PNC Park due to the Pitt-Penn State game at Heinz Field which begins at 8pm.
The Akron RubberDucks defeated the Altoona Curve 5-2 in the opening game of their Eastern League Division Series. Former American League Most Valuable Player Josh Donaldson hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the third inning. The Curve are now 1-10 all-time in Akron during the post-season. Game two is tonight.
Donaldson was acquired by the Cleveland Indians and is on a rehab assignment with Akron.
