High School Sports:
Boys Soccer:–Butler defeated Shaler 4-1. Tate Mohney led the Golden Tornado with two goals and an assist. Landon Mohney added a goal and an assist. Evan Fetter added the other Butler goal.
–Freeport defeated Derry 6-1. Hunter Hardin scored three goals for the Yellow Jackets. Cole Bennick added two. The Yellow Jackets are off to a 2-0 start.
–Seneca Valley-3 Central Catholic-2.
–Mars-5 Kiski Area-0.
–Hampton-1 Knoch-0.
–North Catholic-7 Central Valley-0. Last year’s top scorer in the WPIAL, Joe Kearney, had four goals.
Girls Soccer:
–Shaler defeated Freeport 4-1. Sidney Shemanski scored the game’s opening goal with 20 minutes remaining, but the Yellow Jackets allowed four goals in the final six minutes.
Girls Volleyball:
–Butler lost 3-2 to Pine-Richland. Scores were 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 6-15. Maria Lucas led Butler with nine kills and 26 digs. Tabitha Walker added six kills and 25 digs. Heidi Gross had five kills. Butler will compete in the Moon tournament Saturday.
