The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-3 last night at PNC Park. Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter. He struck out eight before being lifted in the seventh inning after allowing two runs. The Pirates pounded 12 hits in the game, led by Gregory Polanco’s three hit game. Startling Marte added two hits, including his 18th home run of the season.
Rookie infielder Pablo Reyes made his major league debut and had two hits. He scored and drove in a run.
The attracted only 8,855 fans, the lowest attendance of the season. The Bucs and Reds complete their three-game series tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm.
The Pirates continued to call up players from their minor league club in Indianapolis. One of the September call-ups is infield prospect Kevin Kramer, who will see time at second and third base during the final weeks of the season. Kramer was a second-round draft pick in 2015 out of UCLA. The 24-year old hit .311 this season with Indianapolis. The Indians missed the International League playoffs by a half game.
