The Butler girls golf team defeated Pine-Richland 162-189 Monday at Hiland Golf Course. The team was one stroke off the all-time team low score of 161. Paige Scott led the Golden Tornado as medalist with a 35. Maggie Feczko added a 37. Lauren Freyvogel shot a 38 to lead the Rams. Butler will travel to Kittanning Country Club this afternoon to face Armstrong.
After being delayed for nearly two months, the 118th annual West Penn Amateur golf tournament was completed Monday at Fox Chapel Golf Club. Sean Knapp, the reigning United States Senior Amateur champion, overcame a three-shot deficit on the back nine to earn his eighth victory in the event. Knapp finished a -4 under, one shot better than Brady Pevarnik. The tournament began July 2nd, but was suspended by heavy rains and flooding on the course.
Kevin Shields of The Club at Nevillewood is the first round leader at the Tri-State PGA Section championship being played this week at Sewickley Heights Golf Club. Shields fired a -3 under 68 for a two-stroke lead over Justin Collins of Nemacolin Woodlands.
