The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Atlanta Braves 1-0 last night at PNC Park. It is the third time the Bucs have been shutout 1-0 in the past five games. They managed seven hits in the game, two for extra bases. They stranded eight runners. Chris Archer started his fourth game as a Pirate, and allowed the lone run to the Braves in the first inning. He pitched four innings, allowing five hits and struck out three.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle benched centerfielder Starling Marte for a lack of effort on the basepaths during Sunday’s game with the Chicago Cubs. Marte did appear as a pinch-hitter last night.
The Pirates host the Braves again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm.
Former first-round draft pick Kevin Newman made his debut in the Pirates line-up last night. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Defensively, he was part of two double plays.
